Solitaire is the most-played card game in history, and our free online Klondike Solitaire brings the classic experience to your browser with smooth drag-and-drop gameplay. Deal the cards, build your tableau, and stack all four suits from Ace to King on the foundation piles to win. Play solitaire online free whenever you want a relaxing yet mentally engaging break. The draw-one variant gives you the best chance of winning while still requiring thoughtful card management. Every decision matters -- which columns to build, when to move cards to the foundation, and how to uncover hidden cards efficiently. Solitaire has remained popular for centuries because it perfectly balances luck and skill. Some deals are unwinnable, but a skilled player wins far more often than a beginner. If you enjoy classic card games or just need a calming way to pass the time, Klondike Solitaire is the perfect choice.

How to Play Solitaire

The game starts with seven tableau columns. The first column has one card (face up), the second has two (top face up), and so on up to seven. The remaining cards form the stock pile in the top-left corner. Your goal is to build four foundation piles (top-right), one per suit, from Ace up to King.

Click the stock pile to draw a card. You can play the drawn card onto the tableau or directly to a foundation pile. On the tableau, build columns in descending order with alternating colors -- for example, a red 6 goes on a black 7. Move complete sequences between columns to uncover face-down cards.

When you reveal an Ace, move it to the foundation. Build each foundation suit upward: Ace, 2, 3, and so on up to King. Empty tableau columns can only be filled with a King (or a sequence starting with a King). Double-click or tap a card to auto-move it to the foundation if it fits.

Solitaire Tips & Strategies

  • Always move Aces and 2s to the foundation immediately -- there is no reason to keep them in the tableau.
  • Prioritize uncovering face-down cards over building long tableau sequences.
  • Keep foundation piles roughly even -- moving a card up too early can block tableau plays.
  • Use empty columns strategically as temporary holding spaces for rearranging sequences.
  • Only fill empty columns with Kings, and prefer Kings that unlock the most face-down cards.
  • Go through the stock pile early to see what cards are available before committing to a strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is every Solitaire game winnable?

No. Roughly 80% of Klondike Solitaire deals are theoretically winnable with perfect play, but some deals are truly impossible. If you get stuck, do not worry -- start a new game and try again.

What is draw-one Solitaire?

In draw-one (or turn-one) Klondike, you flip one card at a time from the stock pile. This is the most common and player-friendly variant, giving you access to every card in the stock with enough passes through the deck.

How do I move cards in the game?

Click a card to auto-move it if a valid play exists, or drag and drop cards between columns and to the foundation. Double-click a card to send it directly to the foundation. On mobile, tap to select and tap the destination to place it.
