Maze Runner

Puzzlemedium

Maze Runner is a fast-paced maze navigation game that tests your spatial awareness and speed. Race through procedurally generated mazes that grow larger and more complex with each level — all while the clock ticks down. Every maze is unique, generated using a recursive backtracking algorithm that creates challenging but always solvable paths. Start at the top-left corner and find your way to the glowing green exit at the bottom-right before the 30-second timer hits zero. Complete levels quickly to earn time bonuses that carry forward. As you progress, mazes grow from a compact 11×11 grid all the way up to a sprawling 31×31 labyrinth. The deeper you go, the more your pathfinding instincts are put to the test.

Controls: Arrow keys or WASD to move. Swipe on mobile.

How to Play Maze Runner

Use arrow keys or WASD to navigate through the maze. On mobile, swipe in the direction you want to move. Your character is the glowing green circle — guide it from the starting position (top-left) to the pulsing exit marker (bottom-right).

You have 30 seconds per level. Your score increases by 100 points for each completed level, plus 10 bonus points for every second remaining on the timer. Leftover time carries over as bonus points, so speed matters!

Each new level generates a larger maze. Stay calm, look for patterns, and remember that the maze always has a solution. Visited paths leave a subtle trail to help you avoid backtracking.

Maze Runner Tips & Strategies

  • Follow the right-hand rule: keep your right hand on the wall and you'll eventually find the exit.
  • Look ahead before committing to a path — dead ends waste precious seconds.
  • The trail of visited cells helps you avoid going in circles.
  • Early levels are small enough to speed through — bank time bonuses for harder levels.
  • On larger mazes, try to identify the general direction of the exit and head that way.
  • Swipe controls on mobile can be faster than individual key presses for quick direction changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the mazes randomly generated?

Yes! Every maze is procedurally generated using a recursive backtracking algorithm, ensuring each playthrough is unique. Every maze is guaranteed to have at least one solution path from start to exit.

How big do the mazes get?

Mazes start at 11×11 cells and grow by 2 cells in each dimension per level, up to a maximum of 31×31. The increasing size makes later levels significantly more challenging.

What happens when the timer runs out?

When the 30-second timer reaches zero, the game is over and your final score is displayed. You keep the points from all previously completed levels, so getting further always means a higher score.
